London, Oct 30: A former British cyberespionage employee who had become angry and resentful toward his agency’s work was sentenced Monday to life in prison for attempted murder in the vicious stabbing of an American intelligence worker assigned to the UK. Joshua Bowles, 29, punched the woman and knifed her repeatedly in what was called a “politically motivated” attack as she left a gym on March 9 in the England town of Cheltenham, which is home to the UK’s electronic spy agency, Government Communications Headquarters. Over 70 feared dead in Nigeria boath tragedy
Abuja, Oct 30: More than 70 people were missing on Monday after a boat capsized in northern Nigeria, according to authorities who deplored the frequent deadly boat accidents in Africa’s most populous country. More than 100 passengers were on board and 14 were rescued, while 17 bodies have been recovered and 73 people are missing, a Nigerian official said. (AP)
Reprieve for seven militants

Dhaka, Oct 30: Bangladesh’s High Court on Monday commuted the death sentences of seven Islamist militants to life imprisonment unto death, nearly four years after they were convicted for their role in the country’s worst terror attack at a popular Dhaka cafe in 2016 that killed 23 people, including an Indian girl. The heavily armed militants attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant in Dhaka’s posh diplomatic area on July 1, 2016, and took the diners hostage. They subsequently killed three Bangladeshis, seven Japanese, nine Italians and one Indian. (PTI)
