Restrictions on use of fireworks during Diwali

SHILLONG/Jowai, Nov 3: Districts administration of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills have issued an order prohibiting sale and purchase of illegally imported fireworks from foreign manufacturers and restricted use of joined or series firecrackers during the ensuing Diwali festival.
According to the orders, firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (A1) or 145 dB (C) pk at 4 meters distance from the point of bursting has been banned.
Bursting of firecrackers is permitted only from 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali while it is strictly prohibited in silent zones.
‘In view of the urgency of the matter, the order has been passed ex parte and it shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till the celebration of Diwali festival is over’.
