SHILLONG, Nov 8: Senior BJP leader and Cabinet minister, AL Hek declared on Wednesday that he is expected to be the party’s nominee for the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency.
“I am unaware of the other names. There could be three candidates, including my name; I’m not aware of the other two names. Therefore, we’ll see which of the three is the ideal candidate to run for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat,” Hek continued, noting that the winner of the election will need to put in a lot of effort.
Hek had previously stated that he would like to contest the Lok Sabha polls, but he had given the party’s central leadership the final say on the matter. Hek had stated that he will not turn down any offer from the party to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
As for reports that some TMC leaders in the state are contacting the BJP about joining, he stated that he is not aware of any such actions and that he has not met or discussed anything with TMC leader Mukul Sangma.
On the other hand, he declared, “Our door is open for all political parties, not just the TMC.” Speaking of the establishment of the State BJP’s new executive members, he said that the president of the State BJP is currently en route to New Delhi to obtain approval for the list of office bearers, and that once this is completed, it will be announced.
