TURA, Nov 12: Tura MDC and state unit BJP vice president Bernard N Marak on Sunday urged beneficiaries of central schemes in various Garo Hills blocks to link their accounts to Aadhaar assuring that it has nothing to do with the antichrist or the number 666
“Aadhar is not 666 nor is it Satan’s number (Antichrist). It is a unique identification number just like mobile number, EPIC and roll number which maintains an individual’s identity. It is a system which maintains transparency and justifies irregularities in the governance in providing the best to the people. It has nothing to do with faith and salvation,” he said.
The MDC added that linking their accounts to Aadhaar was the only way to avail of Aadhaar based payments and those online payments could not be disbursed as many were yet to get it done.
He also said that Aadhar based payments eliminate middle men and corrupt practices of paying insufficient amounts to the beneficiaries, adding Central schemes like NREGA, PMAY, Pensions, NRLM etc that include scholarships of the students which are paid online in a transparent manner.
According to Bernard, linking beneficiaries’ accounts to Aadhaar has faced numerous problems in the blocks as was evident from his recent tour and that the number of beneficiaries with accounts linked to Aadhar stands less than 50%.
The MDC has also urged all banks to initiate the linking process.
