Girl’s hostel inaugurated in SWKH

Mawkyrwat, Nov 13: A girls’ hostel constructed through a scheme under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India at an amount of Rs 2.50 crore was inaugurated in Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills on Monday.
The inaugural function was attended by Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar, district Deputy Commissioner, Tableland Lyngwa, Director of Social Welfare Department, C D Lyngwa and officers from various departments.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, the MLA said that the Social Welfare Department has provided best services for the welfare of the people of the district such as the establishment of the girls’ hostel and Hope Orphanage.
He also hoped that with the support of district administration, a rehabilitation center for drug addicts will also be set up in the district in the near future.
He extended his gratitude to the Presbyterian Church
of Mawkyrwat for generously contributing the land for the construction of the girls’ hostel building.
He anticipated that the hostel would offer a secure and convenient accommodation option, particularly for school students commuting from remote areas within the district.
The MLA also stated that there are many more developmental projects which will be implemented by the government in the district, and therefore it is important for village heads, organisations and volunteers to work in tandem the government.
He also urged all officers from various departments in the district to commit themselves to their roles and duties and work with diligence for the overall development of the district.
Deputy Commissioner, Tableland Lyngwa said that achieving development requires a collective endeavor involving the government and all stakeholders including village heads, NGOs and faith-based organisations.
He said that the hostel would serve as a temporary residence for working women and students visiting the district for educational purposes or for other works and services.
Director of Social Welfare Department, C D Lyngwa mentioned that faith-based organisations have collaborated closely with the state government in implementing various initiatives and mission-mode programmes aimed at assisting the marginalized sections of the society.
She also spoke about the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Mission, aiming at enhancing the Anganwadi centers and ensuring nutritional support through Self-Help Groups.
