Meghalaya U-15 girls deliver state’s first win in 2023-24

Shillong, Nov 23: The young cricketers of Meghalaya showcased their prowess as the girls’ team secured the state’s inaugural victory in any category of the BCCI domestic cricket season.
The triumph unfolded in the Women’s U-15 One Day Trophy clash against Nagaland in Kolkata, marking a significant moment for Meghalaya cricket.
The pivotal encounter occurred on Tuesday. Nagaland, having been put to bat first after losing the toss, struggled to a total of 74/7 in a curtailed innings spanning 35 overs. Meghalaya, seizing the opportunity, efficiently chased down the target in just 15.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
The star of Meghalaya’s bowling attack was Diya Biswa, who claimed a commendable 3/14 in 7 overs. Jennyfer Fancon and Dejianna M Sangma also made significant contributions, securing 2/8 and 2/11 respectively in their allotted 7 overs each.
In the pursuit of victory, Anastesia Shullai exhibited resilience by carrying her bat through the innings, remaining unbeaten with a score of 21 at the top of the order. Zoya Tasneem contributed 11 runs, further solidifying Meghalaya’s successful chase.
Meghalaya’s journey in the tournament has seen them participate in four matches so far, with three losses, including today’s encounter against Delhi. Their final challenge awaits them against Karnataka on Saturday, concluding their campaign in the Women’s U-15 One Day Trophy.As Meghalaya’s girls’ cricket team basks in the glory of this historic triumph, the significance of their first victory in the BCCI domestic cricket season reverberates throughout the state. The BCCI Women’s U-15 One Day Trophy is a domestic one-day cricket tournament in India for women’s under-15 teams.
The tournament was first held in the 2022-23 season and is contested by 32 teams from across India. The current champions are Madhya Pradesh. The tournament is played in a round-robin format, with each team playing each other once. The top four teams qualify for the semifinals, and the winners of the semifinals play in the final.
