MAWKYRWAT, Dec 14: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar on Thursday conducted an inspection of the Photjaud-Nongnam road project, which was abandoned earlier this year, preventing six villages in Nongnam area from having access to a road. He declared that the PWD minister has assured to issue fresh tender for the road project after learning that the contractor has stopped working on the project.
The purpose of the road was to link the villages of Mawkhyrwang, Nongnam, Mawbri, Lumpyngngad, Matangdeng, and Mawsain. Restrictions pertaining to the supply of their products outside of the region caused the majority of the population—farmers—to lose their earnings.
The 19-km PMGSY road, which connected Photjaud to Nongnam village in Mawkyrwat C&RD Block of South West Khasi Hills District, was abandoned by the contractor earlier this year despite having competed 60% of the work.
Tongkhar expressed his excitement about seeing the construction project through to its conclusion and connecting the villages to improve the quality of life for the locals.
