SHILLONG, Dec 14: The central government is looking into the idea of designating NEIGRIHMS as an institute of national importance.
In response to Cabinet Minister AL Hek’s demand for NEIGRIHMS to be upgraded into an AIIMS, Union Minister of Union Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya made it clear in writing that, at this time, no proposal for NEIGRIHMS to be upgraded to AIIMS is being considered.
“However, a proposal for declaring NEIGRIHMS as an institute of national importance is under consideration of the Ministry,” Mandaviya stated.
Hek, a former health minister, had made the request to the Union government in October this year.
