SHILLONG, Dec 19: The Textiles Department will soon recruit overaged trainees as the state Cabinet has approved a policy to condone the age of such candidates.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that since 2015 there have been no appointments in the department and as many as 115 out of 196 individuals who had completed their training in the sericulture and handloom sector, have crossed the maximum age limit for government jobs. The government is currently  supporting them through stipends.
The special recruitment drive will be held to absorb the overaged candidates, he added.
The CM also said the government intends to start the academic session of Captain Williamson Sangma State Technical University from next year.
The Cabinet has approved an ordinance to apply UGC norms for recruitment in the state’s first technical university.
Some of the norms include constitution of the Board of Governors and the Board of Management.
He also said that the main campus of the university would be in Tura and more campuses would be opened in other parts of the state in due time.
