Phulbari, Dec 20: Chief Minister, Conrad along with his cabinet colleagues, deputy CM, Prestone Tynsong, sports minister Sakhliar Warjri, local MLA and power minister AT Mondal, PHE minister, Marcuise N Marak, MLAs Jimmy D Sangma, Limison D Sangma along with former MLA, Abdus Saleh today paid a visit to the Phulbari constituency in a visit that felt more like a festival. Tura MP, Agatha Sangma was also in attendance.

The reason for the visit was the inauguration of the power grid at Chibinang as well as the inspection of the upcoming bridge between Phulbari and Dhubri on the River Brahmaputra along with the announcement of a serious repair of the road between Chibinang and Phulbari.

The grid, which became operational more than 2 months ago, has been an absolute boon for residents of the region, ridding the entire Dadenggre subdivision of poor voltage that had caused problems for close to a decade.

The contingent of ministers and leaders of the present government arrived in Chibinang by chopper at Chibinang before proceeding directly towards the upcoming bridge where the progress was checked.

They also inaugurated the upcoming indoor stadium at the JP High School as well as a Rs 9 cr astro turf football facility at the Shyamnagar HS playground.

“You have all seen the situation earlier and how it is now. Now Phulbari is getting the same sort of power like the rest of the state. This is all down to the efforts of the power minister, AT Mondal and the team behind him,” said the CM.

On the issue of the AMPT road’s condition between Chibinang and Phulbari, the CM said that during a discussion with the Phulbari MLA and PWD minister, Prestone Tynsong and decided there itself that a repair was paramount.

On the opening of the power grid in Phulbari and voltage returning to normal, locals had nothing other than happiness.

“It is a monumental development for the people of the region as power has always been a major cause of worry for locals. Earlier running even businesses was a major worry due to the poor voltage received. This has been resolved now and as a local from the area, I am thankful to the CM and everyone who helped in alleviating the problem faced,” said power minister and local MLA, AT Mondal.

Locals who had come to the 2*50MVA, 132/33 KV grid sub-station inauguration at the Shyamnagar playground, thanked everyone that worked on the grid and expressed their happiness at the development that took place more than 2 months ago.

“We have literally come out of the dark ages. Earlier even candles were brighter than the bulbs when lit though now the normalization of voltage has eased our lives. This long pending demand has been fulfilled and we are thankful for this,” said Phulbari resident, Suraj Ch Marak.

Social activist, SR Sangma expressed his gratitude to the government for taking up an issue that has been plaguing the region and ensuring its resolution.

“We would like to thank the Conrad Sangma led government and our local MLA and power minister, AT Mondal for bringing closure to our electricity woes. Not only is electricity steady in our region now, disconnections too have become rarer by the day. This is what development means in its real form,” said Sangma.
