Activist Navlakha granted bail
Mumbai, Dec 20: The Bombay High Court in its judgment granting bail to activist Gautam Navlakha, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, has noted that there was no material on record to infer prima facie that he conspired to or committed any terrorist act. A division bench of Justices A S Gadkari and S G Dige granted bail to Navlakha on Tuesday. The full text of the judgement became available on Wednesday. “From the material on record, it appears to us that no covert or overt terrorist act has been attributed to the appellant (Navlakha),” the high court said. Navlakha, arrested in the case in August 2018, was in November 2022 permitted by the Supreme Court to be placed under house arrest. He is presently residing in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. While granting him bail, the bench stayed the order for three weeks so that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) could approach the Supreme Court in appeal. (PTI)

Court seeks CBI’s reply
on Lalu’s plea
New Delhi, Dec 20: A Delhi court on Wednesday sought a reply from the CBI on an application moved by RJD leader Lalu Yadav, his son and wife in a case related to the alleged land-for-job scam, seeking supply of documents filed along with the charge sheet. Special Judge Vishal Gogne of Rouse Avenue Court has asked the CBI to file a reply on pleas of eight accused seeking supply of deficient documents. Lalu’s son and Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, besides moving an application seeking permission to travel to Australia from January 6, has sought permission for renewal of his passport. The court will likely take up Tejashwi’s matter on December 22. On October 3, the court had granted bail to Lalu, son and wife in the case. On September 22, the court took cognisance of a fresh charge sheet by the CBI against Lalu Prasad and others including his son and wife. The CBI had registered the case on May 18, 2022 against Lalu Prasad and 15 others, including his wife, two daughters and unidentified public servants and private persons. (IANS)
