Christmas fervour grips Shillong

Shillong, Dec 22: The Christmas fervour has finally set in this hill capital city and other parts of Meghalaya even as a large number of tourists flocking to the state are impressed with the response and the grandeur with which  the festival is celebrated in Shillong.

Meghalaya Government looks keen to work towards making Shillong the Christmas capital of the North East.

This time, the Government has gone an extra mile and has illuminated many important locations of Shillong besides the usual small stretch of Police Bazar which has set the tone for Christmas not only in Police Bazar but throughout the city.

Expressing his happiness over the initiative of the Tourism and Arts and Culture department, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the Government plans to further intensify the idea and it would even go the extent of illuminating and decorating all district headquarters next year

This time, apart from Shillong, Tura in Garo Hills has also been decorated.

“The initiative is being well received and the inflow of tourists has jumped up and we will intensify many of the Tourism projects by next year,” Lyngdoh said
