SHILLONG, Dec 21: Notwithstanding the rejection in 2019 insofar as the idea of setting up a Congress Bhavan is concerned, the KHADC Executive Committee (EC) is persistent in its plans to set up the Council Bhawan in Delhi.
During the Question Hour of the Council’s winter session on Thursday, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that the EC had directly written to the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, two months prior regarding the matter. According to him, the main objective of the Council Bhavan is to provide accommodation to the visitors from the state in Delhi.
UDP MDC, Teinwell Dkhar, probed into the situation, prompting Syiem to clarify the issue, who noted that they hope the ministry can provide a space for the KHADC to set up a Council Bhawan in Delhi similar to the one set up by the other Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) from the North East. This would immensely help students studying in Delhi by providing a space in case they do not have access to accommodation.
The KHADC CEM said that the land to be allotted to the Council in Delhi will need to be approved by the Governor of Delhi. “We have requested the ministry to provide the land free of cost to the Council,” he said. He mentioned how the idea had unfolded when they attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Karbi Anglong Council Bhavan.
