Shillong, Dec 23: The two-day ‘Na Thymmei’ festival offered attendees a rich immersion into the heart and soul of the Khasi community, showcasing their unique traditions and beliefs, at Madan Weiking, Jaiaw.
The major highlight of the festival supported by the tourism department was to promote the rich indigenous heritage of the Khasis.
The festival brought to the forefront the vibrancy of Khasi culture, rejuvenating forgotten traditional dances, music, and songs.
Visitors enjoyed a captivating array of performances, featuring traditional Khasi dances, indigenous music, and soul-stirring folk performances that echoed the spirit of the culturally diverse region. the traditional tunes that have been passed down through generations.
Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rhythmic beats and melodies that encapsulate the essence of Khasi culture.
Central to this year’s festivities is a captivating short film that unveils the origins of ‘U Lum Sohpetbneng’, a significant aspect of Khasi heritage.
The film intricately explores the historical and cultural nuances surrounding ‘U Lum Sohpetbneng’, shedding light on its significance in the collective memory of the Khasi community.
Through breathtaking visuals and compelling narratives, the short film took viewers on a profound journey, reconnecting with the ancient traditions that have shaped the identity of the Khasi people and gaining a deeper understanding of the community’s unique perspectives, traditions, and the deep connection between their beliefs and their way of life.
‘U Lum Sohpetbneng’ holds a special place in the heart of the Khasi community, and the festival aims to rejuvenate and revitalize the traditions, music, and culture that define Khasi heritage.
The short film is a poignant exploration into the roots of the Khasi culture and tradition, offering a deeper understanding of its cultural importance.
The inaugural day had in attendance newly appointed Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation Director, Allan West Kharkongor, Padmashri Awardee, Risingbor Kurkalang, Seng Khasi Seng Kmie General Secretary, Highness Marbaniang among others.
