Shillong, Dec 30: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) and the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo People (FKJGP), on Saturday asked the State government to stop dreaming about railways and first concentrate in improving the health, education sector and address the problem of unemployment.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 161st death anniversary of legendary freedom fighter from Jaintia Hills, U Kiang Nangbah in Shillong today, KSU president Lambokstar Marngnar said, “We want the government to first assure the safety and security of the indigenous communities, to improve education, improve health sector, to uplift rural development, to improve the livelihood of the farmers, address the problem of unemployment, etc”.

” If the govt turns a deaf ear to all these problems, it should shoulder the responsible if anything happens henceforth,” he added.

FKJGP leader Kitboklang Nongphlang said,”For how long will we allow the noose that was tied around U Kiang Nangbah’s neck to be further tightened around the neck of the jadibynriew (indigenous community)”.

The FKJGP also asked the State government to pursue the resolution on language and ILP before even talking about railways.

The UDP had earlier stated that the State government cannot say no to everything and that they are for the introduction of goods train in the State.
