Shillong, Dec 29: The police intend to get in touch with the Social Welfare department and non-governmental organisations to assist the individuals who were seen injecting drugs in a widely shared video that was taken at a shelter home at Kench’s Trace (Harrison Bridge).
The bulk of the people seen in the video, according to a senior police official on Friday, are those who are homeless.
A senior police official mentioned that the police periodically visit this shelter home to conduct checks.
After the video went viral, the KSU Laban Circle raided the shelter house and discovered that it was being used as a hub for several illegal activities. There was no maintenance of the shelter home from the Shillong Municipal Board.
To stop such illicit activities, the KSU has urged authorities to put strict security measures in place, such as sending security guards on duty.
During a raid on the shelter house, Laban police personnel discovered syringes and containers used for packaging drugs.
