SHILLONG, Jan 4: The BSF Meghalaya apprehended 180 individuals, including 113 Indians, 67 Bangladeshis, and two Rohingyas, for violating the international border’s sanctity in the past year.
In 2023, the force demonstrated vigilance by seizing smuggled goods worth over Rs 49.20 crores, including cattle, sugar, Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), narcotics, and miscellaneous items.
Covering about 444 km stretch of the international border with Bangladesh, BSF Meghalaya faced tough terrain, unfenced patches, elephant corridors, and heavy rainfall.
Apart from border duties, the force actively participated in 45 ‘Civic Action Programmes’ during 2023.
These initiatives, including 24 medical camps, aimed to build trust and strengthen relations with communities by providing free medical checkups, medicines, and essential items to those in need.
