SHILLONG, Jan 4: The BJP is concerned that many beneficiaries in the state did not get the benefits of central schemes and programmes in the past nine-and-half years.
BJP national vice president and Meghalaya in-charge, Chuba Ao told reporters that the party learnt about the denial of the benefits during its interactions with the beneficiaries as part of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra Mission.
Ao said the BJP will need to investigate to find out the reasons behind it. He also said that the party will submit a report on the findings.
Ao said the party has instructed the presidents, right from district-level to block-level committees, to interact with the beneficiaries and find out why they have been left out.
He said the party workers will try to help the people who are facing difficulties in getting their Aadhar card.
The BJP national vice president advised people to go to the common service centre to apply for Aadhar card. “We understand that people will not be able to get the benefits of various schemes since everything has to be linked with their Aadhar,” Ao said.
Meanwhile, Ao said the party has not received any feelers from former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Sangma to join the saffron party.
He said the BJP leadership has not approached Mukul to join the party but if the former chief minister wants, he can join the party.
“It is for Dr Mukul to decide,” Ao said.
Recently, there were reports that four TMC legislators, led by Mukul, were keen on joining the BJP and that Mukul initiated a move. The TMC leader rubbished the reports.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma apparently blocked this move as he would not like to see Mukul joining a party which is a part of the NPP-led ruling coalition.
According to reports, Sangma sought his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma’s intervention against this move.
