Vikrant Massey-starrer ’12th Fail’ tops IMDb’s top 250 films of Indian cinema

Shillong, January 9: The biographical drama ’12th Fail,’ featuring actor Vikrant Massey and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, has achieved the highest rating on IMDb, securing the number one spot on IMDb’s Top 250 films of Indian Cinema with an impressive rating of 9.2 out of 10.

As per IANS, IMDb, renowned for its movie, TV, and celebrity content, serves as an authoritative source to help fans navigate the world of films and shows and make informed viewing decisions.

In the global context of films that received a minimum of 20,000 user votes in 2023, ’12th Fail’ emerged as the highest-rated film. The list of top-rated films for 2023 features ’12th Fail’ at the pinnacle, followed by ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ with a rating of 8.6. Other significant releases of the year such as ‘Oppenheimer’ (8.4), ‘Godzilla Minus One’ (8.4), and Kannada film ‘Kaiva’ (8.2) complete the top 5.

Furthermore, ’12th Fail’ has secured a place in the top 10 on the Highest Rated Drama list of LetterBoxD 2023 year in Review.

Previously, the movie was chosen as the closing film for the Macau Asia-Europe Young Cinema Film Festival. Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be present at the screening on January 11 in Macau. The film, based on Anurag Pathak’s best-selling novel, portrays the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma.

Inspired by real-life narratives, ’12th Fail’ explores the relentless struggles of millions of students attempting the UPSC entrance exam. Beyond exam preparations, the movie delves into the personal challenges faced by aspirants both at home and in their relationships during the intense period of exam studies, leading to emotional turmoil and often resulting in students quitting or experiencing severe depression.

Ultimately, ’12th Fail’ unfolds as a narrative of resilience, perseverance, and the spirit of never giving up. The film features Vikrant Massey in the lead role, supported by a talented cast including Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee in pivotal roles. In November 2023, the movie was also submitted as an independent nomination to the Oscars.
