EJH village leaders attacked with axe

Jowai, Jan 9: In an attempt to quell down a chaotic scene in Tuber Kmai Shnong, in East Jaintia Hills the headman and secretary IVCS of the village were attacked with an axe on January 3 night.
The headman, Micky Lyngdoh, and the secretary IVCS Denis Lyngdoh received severe injuries after they were brutally attacked with an axe by Training Phawa while attempting to calm down a situation.
The matter surfaced after an FIR was filed by one Chelang Lyngdoh at Lad Rymbai Outpost, East Jaintia Hills the following day.
According to the FIR, Chelang Lyngdoh stated that his brother Micky Lyngdoh headman of Tuber Kmai Shnong, and his relative Denis Lyngdoh who holds the post of secretary IVCS, and Chairman Seinraij Tuber Kmai Shnong after hearing about a chaos in the village, on January 3 at 11:30 p.m. rushed to the spot to contain the matter.
But, in the process of taking stock of the situation, he alleged that Training Phawa of Tuber Kmai Shnong, armed with an axe appeared out of nowhere in a vehicle and brutally attacked his brother on his hand while his cousin Denis Lyngdoh in the head.
Both received grievous injuries and blood was oozing from his cousin’s head who fell unconscious, he stated in the FIR.
The brother further stated that Training’s intention and actions were to murder them.
The victims were taken to Civil Hospital, Ialong, and were later shifted to Super Care Hospital, Shillong.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP Khliehriat Circle has condemned the attack on the headman and the secretary of Tuber Kmai.
Expressing their disappointment that the accused, Training Phawa has got an interim bail which will end on January 12, the federation appealed to the public prosecutor that the accused should not evade arrest after the end of his interim bail.
“We also urge upon the police to ensure that the accused is arrested so that it will act deterrent to ensure this kind of incident is not repeated,” the FKJGP Khliehriat Circle said.
