Shillong, Jan 9: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research Complex, (ICAR RC) for North Eastern Region (NER), celebrated its 49th Foundation Day in its Umiam premises, on Tuesday.
The day shed light on the contribution of the ICAR in the agricultural and economic development of the region, while also discussing the need for concrete technologies that are farmer-friendly and sustainable means of agriculture.
The traditional lighting of the lamp marked the beginning of the ceremony in the presence of VK Mishra, Director, ICAR RC, NEH, Naveen Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, CPWD, Shillong, BC Deka, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, A. Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah former DDG (Animal Sciences) ICAR, Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR, New Delhi among other dignitaries.
An auditorium was inaugurated as Dr. MS Swaminathan Hall in tribute to the founder, and Dr. Himanshu Pathak spoke about the importance of integrating true science and traditional knowledge for sustainable agriculture, echoing Swaminathan’s views on conservation and agriculture.
