Shillong, Jan 11: In a celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship, the 5th Meghalaya Games is set to kick off with a spectacular lineup of events across various venues. The diverse range of competitions promises to captivate audiences and showcase the state’s sporting prowess.
The P.A. Sangma Stadium will play a pivotal role in hosting the Inaugural and Closing Ceremony, along with featuring thrilling matches in Football (Men) and Sports Climbing (Men & Women). Track & Field enthusiasts can head to Dakopgre for the Athletics events, catering to both Men and Women.
Archery (Men & Women) and Taekwondo (Men & Women) will find their stage at Monfort School, Danakgre, while Don Bosco Junior College takes center stage for Arm Wrestling (Men & Women), Judo (Men & Women), and Gymnastics (Men & Women). Don Bosco College is the place to be for Basketball (Men & Women), Boxing (Men & Women), and Wushu (Men & Women).
Karate (Men & Women) aficionados will converge at Tura Govt College, while the Sericulture Open Theatre in New Tura will witness intense Weight Lifting battles among both Men and Women. St Mary’s Higher Secondary School will be the battleground for Wrestling (Men & Women).
Cycling (Men & Women) enthusiasts will navigate the scenic Rongkhon Area, and the Rongkhon Swimming Pool will host the aquatic clashes in Swimming (Men & Women). Golf enthusiasts can hone their skills at the BSF Ground.
Volleyball (Men) action unfolds at Matchakolgre LP School near Law College, while shooting enthusiasts (Men & Women) can showcase their prowess at Goeragre 2nd Battalion in both Long and Short range competitions. The Tura Indoor Hall emerges as a hub for Table Tennis (Men & Women) and Badminton (Men & Women), offering a dynamic arena for these fast-paced sports.
Football (Men & Women) fans will gather at Chandmari Ground to witness exciting showdowns, completing the vibrant array of events spread across Meghalaya. The 5th Meghalaya Games promises to be a thrilling spectacle, showcasing the talent and dedication of athletes from various disciplines.
As of Thursday evening, January 11, 2024, the town is currently welcoming a total of 2,337 athletes, 228 coaches and managers, along with key figures such as the Chef de Mission, Asst Chef de Mission, and presidents and secretaries from diverse sporting associations, summing up to 3,136 officials and participants connected to the event. In the days to come, this number is expected to rise as additional visiting officials, media contingents, and security personnel arrive to ensure the vibrancy and success of the event. Accommodations for all participants are being arranged in schools, hostels, and guest houses across the town.
