Shillong, Jan 27: Shillong Lajong FC has officially parted ways with yet another foreign player, Abdou Karim Samb from Senegal.
The decision, which was recently disclosed, did not come as a significant surprise, considering the striker’s performance failed to make a substantial impact on the field. Concurrently, the club also confirmed the departure of Kongbrailatpam Manjit Sharma.
In a statement released on social media, SLFC expressed gratitude to both Karim and Manjit for their dedication and contributions to the club. The club extended best wishes to both players for their future endeavors.
This move follows Lajong’s earlier decision to release Takuto Miki in the late stages of the previous year, following just six I-League matches. Miki’s departure was reportedly influenced by the player’s dissatisfaction with the lack of playing time.As the January transfer window unfolds, Shillong Lajong FC has made new additions to the team, bringing in a Brazilian and a Nepali player. This strategic recruitment comes as the team gears up to resume its I-League campaign, which had been temporarily halted to accommodate the Super Cup. Unfortunately, Lajong faced three defeats in their group during the Super Cup.
Abdou Karim Samb featured in all three Super Cup matches, starting in one and appearing twice as a substitute, but failed to find the back of the net. While he managed to score three goals in the 11 I-League matches played for SLFC, his overall performance did not meet expectations, and he appeared uncomfortable on the pitch.
Shillong Lajong FC’s decision to part ways with Abdou Karim Samb and Kongbrailatpam Manjit Sharma reflects the club’s commitment to optimizing its squad dynamics and enhancing on-field performance.
The focus remains on revitalizing their I-League campaign after a brief pause for the Super Cup.
The departure of these players, coupled with strategic recruitment, signals a determined effort by SLFC to strengthen its position in the upcoming challenges. Lajong fans eagerly anticipate the team’s resurgence and success as they navigate the remainder of the season with renewed vigor and fresh talent.
