Mawkyrwat, January 2: The Royal Challengers from Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills District, emerged as the champions of the Mawten IV Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2023-24 organized by Mawten Sports Club at Madan Mawpyllun, Mawten, located 2 kilometers from Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills District. They secured victory by defeating Nongpoh Town Club by 5 wickets in the final match held on Friday.
In the decisive encounter, Nongpoh Town Club won the toss and chose to bat, setting a target of 113 runs from 16.5 overs while losing all 10 wickets. Pushkar Raj, with 27 runs, was the highest scorer for Nongpoh Town Club, while Andelbert Shangpliang and Robin Chettri of Royal Challengers claimed 3 wickets each.In response, Royal Challengers scored 115 runs from 17.1 overs, losing only 5 wickets. Rudy Shangpliang, with 52 runs, earned the title of the highest scorer for Royal Challengers and was awarded the Man-of-the-Match. Siraj Ali of Nongpoh Town Club took 3 wickets.
Bharat Gurung of Nongpoh Town Club was honored as the Man of the Tournament, while Rohit Rai of Donkin SCC secured the title of the Highest Run Scorer, and Robin Chettri of Royal Challengers was recognized as the Highest Wicket Taker in the tournament.
The victorious Royal Challengers received a prize of Rs. 40,000/- along with a trophy, while the Runners-Up, Nongpoh Town Club, took home Rs. 20,000/- and a trophy.
The closing ceremony of the Mawten IV Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2023-24 was graced by Gideon Kharkongor, Secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, in the presence of Dhrubajyoti Takuria, Treasurer of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, office bearers of the South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association, office bearers of Mawten Sports Club, officials from the Sports Department, Mawkyrwat, and prominent leaders from the Mawkyrwat area.
