SHILLONG, Feb 5: The aspirations of the UDP in terms of pursuing vital issues will be the party’s focal point in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, feels UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh.
Stating that various issues to be taken up during the election campaign have already been spelt out by their candidate, Robertjune Kharjahrin, when he was declared as the official candidate of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), Lyngdoh, on Monday, said, “Those issues are very vital and we are fortunate that we have been able to select the best possible issues which are relevant to the Lok Sabha,”
Talking about the RDA, Lyngdoh, who is also a Cabinet minister, said, “Since two major regional parties have come under this alliance… we are very optimistic that our candidates will sail through.” With regard to the ongoing campaigning of the party, he said, “The party has already started moving in the right direction. In various constituencies, different committees are meeting and the candidate is touring various parts already.”
Kharjahrin has visited West Khasi Hills in the last week, he said.
“We hope that we should be able to complete his participation in various meetings within the prescribed time of the election commission,” he added.
The UDP is confident of a good outing in the Lok Sabha polls based on its past records and the party’s strong ground presence.
