Shillong, February 9: Uttarakhand’s Haldwani witnessed tragic violence after the demolition of an “illegal” madrasa and mosque. Authorities claim the clashes were planned, resulting in 4 fatalities and over 100 injured police officers.

Residents reacted by setting vehicles and a police station on fire, leading to a curfew and internet suspension.

As per India Today, the state is on high alert as tensions simmer. Schools and colleges in Nainital are closed, shops remain shuttered, and even neighboring Uttar Pradesh has heightened security measures.

Officials maintain the demolition was court-ordered and accuse unidentified individuals of inciting violence. Social media monitoring and strict vehicle checks are in place to maintain peace.

While investigations are ongoing, the incident highlights the complexities surrounding land claims and religious structures, leaving a trail of grief and disruption in Haldwani.
