MAWKYRWAT, Feb 13: Regional Democratic Alliance’s MP candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin on Tuesday said all the problems ailing the ‘Jaitbynriew’ lies within Parliament.
“We have taken up many issues concerning the ‘Jaitbynriew’, but all these problems lie within Parliament. We have demanded implementation of ILP in Meghalaya; the MDA 1.0 Government passed a resolution in Assembly, but for four years it has been pending in Parliament. The same happened with the demand to include Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule. An agitation was organised by our people even in Delhi, but it reached nowhere,” Kharjahrin said at a public meeting in Rangblang village, South West Khasi Hills, on Tuesday.
He lamented that the state’s MPs do not raise their voice in Parliament.
“We have demanded from the Centre for a separate cadre so that we will have our own IAS, IPS, IFS as we have had our own state because even smaller states have their own cadre. We have also demanded strengthening of the Sixth Schedule to strengthen the Dorbar Himas, Dorbar Shnongs and also to develop our state through Direct Funding in which the MDCs have tried very hard and the NGOs have put up suggestions, but all these issues reach nowhere because no one was there in Delhi to help us,” Kharjahrin said, while asserting that these are some of the issues that prompted him to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
