Street Library installed to encourage reading culture

TURA, Feb 16: Gandrak Dare Beautification Project was inaugurated by Tura MP Agatha K Sangma and the first of-its-kind Street Library was installed at the venue to promote reading culture.
It may be mentioned that an estimate of Rs 50 lakh was earmarked for the beatification project while the street library was funded from the MPLADS scheme.
Sangma had also donated her books from her collection to the library.
She lauded the efforts and dedication of the Tura Municipal Board for the successful implementation of the Gandrak Dare Beautification project. Reminiscing about her childhood days, she said that she used to visit the site as a child.
Expressing her gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for implementing different beautification projects in and around the town, especially the Gandrak Dare project, she said that it was the responsibility of every citizen to take care of and maintain these projects.
While Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board Rikse R Marak informed that the project was sanctioned by the Grant in Aid of about Rs 50 lakh by the state government which materialised since there were not many parks and recreational spaces for people in and around the town. While, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board J D Sangma said that the project could be successful due to the vision and aspirations of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma including the hard work and cooperation of the staff of TMB and the people. Further, he urged those residing near the streams to keep the water clean so that it could be used during the dry season.
