SHILLONG, Feb 19: The land acquisition process for two-lane work on Shillong Western Bypass is in its final stages.
Informing the House about this during the Assembly session on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 681.63 crore as land compensation for the road project.
“We are waiting for the funds to be placed in the hands of respective deputy commissioners. I am sure we will get the funds within this current financial year,” Tynsong said.
The starting point of the 38.256-km-long Shillong Western Bypass is near Lad Umsaw and it ends at Lad Mawreng, he told the House.
It may be noted that Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh had requested the intervention of Tynsong in expediting the construction of the Shillong Western Bypass to ease the problem of traffic congestion in Shillong.
