BHOPAL, Feb 20: Congress leader Kamal Nath will join the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra after it enters Madhya Pradesh on March 2, a senior party leader said on Tuesday.
Nath and other leaders virtually attended a meeting to review preparations for the yatra earlier in the day, sources said.
During the four-day tour of Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi will conduct road shows and meetings.
He will perform puja at the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain and address a public meeting in Dhar district on March 6, said state Congress president Jitu Patwari.
“Kamal Nath has said that he would join the the yatra during its Madhya Pradesh leg, so there is no spice left for the media and BJP,” he said apparently referring to the speculation about Nath’s possible switch to the saffron party.
Earlier in the day, Congress general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh. Bhanwar Jitendra Singh reviewed preparations for the Yatra and formed various committees to ensure its success, a party functionary said.
Senior Congress leaders, including Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh, Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha, and district in-charges from where the yatra will pass, attended the meeting virtually.
‘Kamal Nath’s switch over creation of media and BJP’
Congress general secretary Bhanwar Jitendra Singh on Tuesday said there is no truth in the speculation of senior party leader Kamal Nath joining the BJP and claimed such talks were a creation of the media and the saffron party.
Singh, the AICC in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, arrived in Bhopal on Tuesday in the backdrop of suspense over former CM Kamal Nath’s next move and escalating tension within the state Congress.
There has been intense speculation over future moves by Congress veteran Kamal Nath, despite repeated assurances from his associates on Monday that there are no plans for him to leave the party and cross over to the ruling BJP.
Asked about the speculation over Nath’s next political move, Singh told reporters, “All these things are raised by the media and the BJP. There is no truth in it.”
He arrived here to attend a Congress meeting to review preparations ahead of the entry of party leader Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Madhya Pradesh. (PTI)
