Truck plunges into 120-ft-deep gorge

MAWKYRWAT, Feb 20: A truck fell into a 120-feet-deep gorge near Keniong village in South West Khasi Hills while en route to Ranikor area under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division.
Sources said that the accident took place on early Tuesday morning. The truck (ML 12 2702), carrying onions, skidded off the road and fell into the gorge.
The driver, identified as Splendar Snaitang (25) of Keniong village, and one Fairlyson Thyrniang (23) of Nongnah village were injured in the incident.
They were shifted to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital for medical treatment. However, the driver was referred to Shillong for further attention as he was severely injured.
The Mawkyrwat police is conducting an inquiry into the incident and investigation is on.
