SHILLONG, March 2: The Additional Director of Shillong Polytechnic has been approved to hold the additional charge of Principal of Shillong Government College of Engineering (SGCE) along with 13 faculty members of Shillong Polytechnic to start the preparatory activities for the operationalisation of the engineering college.
It may be mentioned that the engineering college has applied for affiliation from NEHU to start the degree engineering college, and it has also applied to AICTE for a grant of approval for starting of the technical courses, which are under process. While 55 posts have also been created and sanctioned.
The state government is targeting to start the Shillong Engineering College from the academic session (2024-25).
The SEC was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on January 16 this year. Earlier, a government official disclosed that the state government had created different posts in the College but the issue of roster delayed the recruitment process.
The government will recruit the teaching and non-teaching staff through a special recruitment drive.
The college is located on a campus area of about 7.8 acres, within the premises of the Shillong Polytechnic at Mawlai Kynton Massar.
The college will cater to degree courses in three engineering branches — civil, electrical, and mining, with an intake capacity of 30 students for each branch.
