500-meter run celebrates Int’l Women’s Day

Shillong, March 9: The Treilang Welfare Society (TWS), in partnership with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYK) Shillong, organized a 500-meter marathon themed “Run Women Run – Run for a Cause”, MYBharat Viksit Bharat – Nari Shakti Fitness Run.
The event took place on Saturday morning in commemoration of International Women’s Day. Starting from Malki Point to Barik via Crinoline Swimming Pool, and concluding back at Malki Point, the run witnessed a significant turnout of women athletes.Beltina Pyngrope from Mawpat won 1st Prize, Leena Ryntathiang from Mawpat won 2nd Prize, Bitarisk Marbaniang from Nongmynsong won 3rd Prize and Gloria Thangkhiew from Lummawbah won award for Senior Athlete.
Fantin Joseph Lakadong, MDC Malki Laitumkhrah, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, with D. Rapsang, Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Shillong, as the Guest of Honor.The theme, “Run Women Run – Run for a Cause,” highlights the commitment to promoting women’s health, fitness, and empowerment. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly for women.
In conclusion, the Treilang Welfare Society extends its gratitude to all participants, athletes, guests, volunteers, NYK Shillong representatives, and others for the success of the Run Women Run 2024 “MYBharat Viksit Bharat – Nari Shakti Fitness Run” event.The camaraderie and determination displayed by participants underscored the importance of community engagement in advocating for gender equality and women’s well-being. As the echoes of the marathon fade, its impact continues to resonate, inspiring individuals to strive for a more inclusive and supportive society.
