MAWKYRWAT, March 10: The Trinamool Congress (TMC), Mawkyrwat Block, on Saturday advised its supporters in Mawkyrwat to vote for any party except the NPP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The TMC held a general meeting at its party office in Mawkyrwat on Saturday to hold discussions on the upcoming elections, especially in view of the delay in announcement of candidates by the TMC and the dilemma over INDIA bloc decision.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, president of the TMC Mawkyrwat Block, Sounder Strong Cajee said the party wants its supporters to rally for any party except the NPP since it “betrayed” the people of the state by supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Parliament.
“I do have anything against the NPP, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma or their candidate, but we cannot forget that this is the party that betrayed our people because when the whole state including the youth, pressure groups and all political parties including the NPP were against the CAA, the party’s MP from Tura, Agatha K Sangma, supported the implementation of CAA in Parliament,” Cajee said.
“I will not interfere in their choice. It is totally up to them. However, the voice of the majority at the meeting is for only two parties — they will either support the Congress or the VPP because these are the only two parties that has no connection with the BJP,” Cajee said.
After Lok Sabha elections, the party will hold another meeting to deliberate over the district council election. “We will see who is going to contest the MDC election. We are sure that we will contest and it will be a tough fight for both the sitting member as now we will not start from zero, as our vote bank has almost reached 5,000,” Cajee said.
