SHILLONG, March 12: The state Cabinet on Tuesday cleared the purchase of a landfill site in Dorakgre East Garo Hills.
The Cabinet also included accidental drowning as one of the disasters.
Talking about the landfill site, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We have also cleared the purchase of a landfill site in Dorakgre in East Garo Hills. This is the landfill site which is going to be for the town of Williamnagar and these new sites will not be technically landfill sites but they would be sites where recycling and segregation of waste will take place”.
Reminding that the foundation stone for the bio-mining of Marten was laid, he said work has already been allotted to one agency and it is expected to start this week, adding that the same agency would be working in Tura. The chief minister also informed that accidental drowning has also been included in the disaster list under SDRF where the next of kin of the victim of accidental drowning would be eligible for funds of roughly about 4 lakhs.
The chief minister also informed the last approval was taken for the extension of the RDSS scheme. “Under the RDSS scheme there are certain additions which need to be further brought into the network of the electrification of those villages which have been left out,” he said.
