Meghalaya observes TB Day

Guwahati, Mar 19: Meghalaya observed World Tuberculosis Day 2024 at the Culture and Drug Susceptibility Testing Laboratory, R.P. Chest Hospital Compound on Tuesday.

Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Meghalaya, who was present on the occasion as the Chief Guest, said TB was the oldest disease known to mankind.

He also added that even if it was a life-threatening disease but preventable and curable with regular and proper medication.

Additionally, he inaugurated the Culture and Drug Susceptibility Testing (C&DST) Laboratory for presumptive TB/DRTB and for TB/DRTB patients in the hospital.

The NHM director also stressed that the state’s goal now is not to control TB but to eliminate it completely from the state.

The programme was organized by the Office of the Mission Director, National Health Mission, Meghalaya.
