Blow to BJP as former MLA Samuel Sangma joins NPP

 Tura, Mar 21: In a major blow to the BJP in Garo Hills, senior party leader and former MLA from Baghmara, Samuel M Sangma joined the NPP on Thursday.

Sangma, during the 2023 Assembly elections had contested for the Baghmara seat on a BJP ticket only to be defeated by then Independent candidate, Kartush Marak, who later joined the NPP. Sangma’s joining the NPP ranks is likely to be a big blow to the BJP as the party is now left without a leader in the district.

Sangma’s joining along with a large number of his supporters was welcomed by Chief minister Conrad sangma himself in the presence of other party leaders including cabinet minister Marcuise Marak, Rakkam A Sangma and others at an official joining ceremony at the NPP Office in Baghmara.
