State adopts policy to attract investors, boost employment

SHILLONG, March 24: In what can be called a move that is likely to give a fillip to the employment opportunities in Meghalaya, the state government has adopted the Meghalaya Information Technology and Information Technology-enabled services (IT & ITeS) Promotion Policy-2024.
A notification issued recently in this regard stated that the Meghalaya Information Technology and Information Technology-enabled services Promotion Policy-2024 was adopted to provide an environment that attracts investors to the hill state and generates sustainable employment for the residents of Meghalaya and other Northeastern states in the IT and ITeS sectors.
The policy aims to attract investment through financial and non-financial incentives, provide a conducive and mutually beneficial environment for both investors and the state, create ample employment opportunities in IT and ITeS sector in Meghalaya, promote a competent and sustainable talent pool in IT and ITeS sector, and establish Meghalaya as a hub for innovations in emerging and advanced technologies in IT and ITeS sectors.
Meanwhile, the state government has also given its nod to the creation of the Meghalaya Technology Parks Society in order to professionally plan, develop, establish, promote, operate and manage the Technology Park projects in Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya Technology Parks Society aims to promote the state as a preferred investment destination for ICT & Electronics units in order to generate employment opportunities for the talents of Meghalaya in particular and the Northeast in general, so as to contribute towards the state and the region’s socio-economic development.
