State machinery reviews law and order situation

SHILLONG, March 27: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, DGP Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi on Wednesday gave a presentation to Chief Secretary DP Wahlang on the present law and order situation in the state including the interstate border areas.
The DGP also spoke about the close coordination with Assam Police to maintain peace in border areas.
This transpired at a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on interstate border and other law and order issues in the context of the MP polls, held at the Conference Hall Main Secretariat, Shillong.
Besides the Chief Secretary and DGP LR Bishnoi, others who attended the meeting include Additional Chief Secretary Home (Police) department, Dr Shakil P Ahammed, Director General of Police, Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi, Commissioner and Secretary, ERTS department, Sanjay Goyal, Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya, Dr BDR Tiwari, and officials of the Election department, Secretary of Home (Police) department, Inspector General Frontier Headquarters, BSF Meghalaya, and the State Police Nodal Officer.
The Chief Secretary, Shri. D.P. Wahlang sought information on these issues for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, in which the DGP Meghalaya Dr. Lajja Ram Bishnoi gave a presentation on Law and Order situation in the State and in the border areas.
It may be mentioned that the Election Commission of India has fixed an interstate border meeting with Assam slated for April 3. They also discussed the steps taken to keep vigil on interstate border movement, prevention/detention of anti-social elements, plan for surveillance and sealing of entry and exit points and porous interstate borders, declaration of dry and paid holiday, et al.
