Mahua Moitra skips ED summons
Kolkata, March 28: TMC leader Mahua Moitra campaigned in her Krishnanagar constituency of West Bengal on Thursday, giving a miss to the Enforcement Directorate summons that asked her to appear for questioning at the ED office in New Delhi. The probe agency had issued fresh summons to Moitra and Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani for questioning in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case. (PTI)

Govinda joins Shinde-led Shiv Sena
Mumbai, March 28: Bollywood actor Govinda, a mass entertainer of the 1990s who is known for his excellent comic timing and epic dance steps, on Thursday joined the ruling Shiv Sena in Mumbai, making a comeback in politics after a 14-year hiatus. The former Congress Lok Sabha MP joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at the time of election season. Govinda, who gave multiple superhit films in his decades-long career, made a blockbuster entry in electoral politics in 2004. That year, the “Hero No. 1” actor emerged as a “giant killer” when, as the Congress candidate, he defeated BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat. Shinde welcomed the 60-year-old actor into his party, saying he was a popular figure in all sections of society. (PTI)

Punjab CM blessed with baby girl
Chandigarh, March 28: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his wife Gurpreet Kaur were blessed with a baby girl on Thursday. Mann shared the news in a post on X. “The Almighty has given (me) the gift of a daughter. Both the mother and the baby are healthy,” he said. In another post, the chief minister shared a picture of his newborn daughter. Sources said the baby was born at a private hospital in Mohali. Mann married Kaur in 2022 after he separated from his first wife in 2015. He has a son and a daughter from his first marriage. (PTI)

Man burned alive by in-laws in Mathura
Mathura, March 28: A 22-year-old man was burned alive here, allegedly by a group of men from his in-laws’ side on Thursday, police said. Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar said the victim, Vijay, was travelling on a bike with his father Papu when he was set on fire. According to a complaint filed by Vijay’s father, some of his son’s in-laws stopped their bike mid-way, pulled him aside, and beat him up, the SP said. “The men threw some liquid over him and set him on fire,” he said. (PTI)

Man stabbed over drinking water
Bengaluru, March 28: A youth was stabbed to death during a brawl over drinking water in Karnataka’s Yadgir district, said officials on Thursday. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Nandakumara Kattimani. The accused, Hanumantha and Hanumavva, have been arrested. According to police, the incident was reported in Hunasagi town of the district on Wednesday night. The accused had quarrelled with the grandmother of the deceased over drinking water. (PTI)
Victim Nandakumara had intervened and objected to the accused’s behaviour. (IANS)
