SHILLONG, March 31: The VPP has alleged a conspiracy between the BJP government at the Centre and the NPP-led MDA Government to deny ILP to Meghalaya.
Speaking at an election rally at Sohra on Saturday, VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit reminded that the Centre had delete the word “Khasi” and “Jaintia” from the purview of the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873 and replaced it with the “State of Manipur” which only proves that there is an understanding between the two government at the Centre and the state.
According to him, the NPP-led MDA Government should have opposed the deletion of the words “Khasi” and “Jaintia” from the Regulation.
“Why was the MDA Government silent on this if it was serious with its demand to implement ILP in the State?” the VPP chief questioned.
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh reminded that the previous Congress-led MUA Government under Mukul Sangma was against implementation of the ILP.
“Even the incumbent Congress MP from Shillong Parliamentary seat, Vincent H Pala was against ILP,” he said.
According to him, the resolution adopted by the Assembly to urge the Centre to implement ILP in the state is only a drama to mislead the people.
He said that the resolution passed by the Assembly has paved the way for the state government to always pin the blame on the Centre whenever questions are posed on the status of the demand for implementation of ILP in Meghalaya.
