Rongali Bihu celebration in city exhibits Assam’s cultural heritage

SHILLONG, April 15: The richness of Assamese culture was on full display during the Rongali Bihu celebration in the state capital on Monday.
According to a statement here, the programme was organised at the 67 BN, CRPF HQr, Polo Grounds, amidst the vibrant colours, melodious tunes and sheer gusto.
The event was organised by Commandant and all ranks of 67 BN, CRPF, Sunil Kumar Savita, and was attended by Inspector General, North-Eastern Sector Headquarters, Shillong, Danesh Rana, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Commandant expressed his delight at the opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity of India within the CRPF fraternity.
He also emphasised the importance of such events in fostering camaraderie and understanding among the personnel.
“The highlight of the celebration was the mesmerizing cultural programmes that showcased the essence of Assamese culture. From traditional folk dances like Bihu Naas and Bihu Husori to melodious renditions of Bihu songs, the performances left the audience enthralled and captivated,” the statement said.
The Inspector General, on the other hand, commended the efforts of the 67th Battalion, CRPF, in organising the event.
He then highlighted the significance of celebrating festivals like Rongali Bihu in strengthening the bond between the security forces and the local communities.
“The event not only served as a platform to celebrate Assamese culture but also fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie among the personnel stationed at the 67 BN, CRPF HQr. It exemplified the CRPF’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity within its ranks,” the statement said.
Rongali Bihu, the festival of abundance and joy, marks the onset of the Assamese New Year and is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety.
