Two arrested KSU members remanded in police custody

Third arrest in Ichamati twin-murder case; first arrest in Mawlai Mawroh labourer’s murder case

SHILLONG, April 24: Two members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), arrested by the police in two separate cases of murder, were produced at the district court on Wednesday and it remanded them to police custody.
Cleenstar Shabong (27), hailing from Nongthymmai, was arrested in connection with the Ichamati twin-murder case. Two others were arrested earlier in connection with this case.
Gary Mawlieh (25), who hails from Mawlai, was arrested in connection with the murder of a labourer, Arjun Ray, at Mawlai Mawroh. This is the first arrest in the case.
Cleenstar and Gary were sent to 7-day and 12-day police custody, respectively. The police said more arrests will be made soon.
According to the police, Cleenstar has 10 cases pending against him apart from the Ichamati case and has been charge-sheeted in one of the cases.
Similarly, Gary has three cases pending against him apart from the Mawlai Mawroh case and has been charge-sheeted in two of the cases.
Earlier, the police arrested two persons, Shambor Shati (26) from Wah Utim and Meshadapbor Skhembill from Saitsohpen, Sohra, in connection with the Ichamati case.
Members of the KSU, led by its president Lambokstar Marngar and general secretary Donald Thabah, staged a protest by shouting slogans outside the district court when the accused were brought for production.
