TURA, April 28: The United Hajong Community Development Organisation has condemned the recent sexual assault of two minor tribal girls during the Chenga Benga Mela in South West Garo Hills.
The organisation, while lauding the Police departments of both Meghalaya and Assam for nabbing the perpetrators responsible for the crimes, demanded they be brought to justice at the earliest.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with the families of the two minor victims.
It may be mentioned that so far nine persons have been arrested in connection with the case pertaining to the gang-rape, which took place on April 17.
According to police, all the accused have been identified as residents of Teporpara village of Assam, which is located near the crime scene.
Earlier on Saturday, the Central Puja Committee (CPC), Garo Hills, had also expressed its anguish over the case, while calling for swift action to ensure that not only justice is served but also support and care is provided to the victims.
