SHILLONG, April 29: Farmers from Syntung and Nohron are now stationed in Khyndai Lad here with their plucked farm-fresh strawberries, following the successful stint at the Strawberry Festival, held from April 12 to 13.
The strawberry market will be open for buyers from April 29 to May 3, starting 12 noon until 8 pm, wherein the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Projects (MGMP) artists will also perform to keep the buyers, who can be tourists, entertained.
Several tourists, who visited the stalls right at the centre of the city, looked pretty impressed with the strawberries of the state.
The scheme called ‘Development of Strawberry Cultivation’ was launched by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to provide farmers with quality and improved varieties of strawberry planting materials so as to encourage area expansion under this crop such that commercialisation of horticulture under this crop is achieved.
