SHILLONG, May 7: Meghalaya BJP vice president and Tura MDC, Bernard Marak on Tuesday questioned the NPP-led MDA Government’s silence on a blacklisted company — ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd — being awarded projects in Garo Hills.
“I have not received any reply from any quarters and if they don’t respond, I will write again. We need a reply on how this company is working in Garo Hills?” questioned Marak.
Marak said that the project of completing construction work on National Highway 51 was originally awarded to one Manoranjan Company but that company could not finish the work on time after which the project was awarded to another company named Shubham. “This company is run by ARSS and their entire team is from ARSS, which is blacklisted in the state  for irregularities in execution of the Shillong-Dawki road project,” the BJP leader claimed.
“We do not want such tainted companies to take up any work in the state. The ARSS Company was shown the doors for shoddy work in one part of Meghalaya but allowed to function in Garo Hills. I am getting complaints from people who are not happy with their work,” he added.
He claimed that the company does not have a trading licence and they have not even registered with the GHADC for payment of professional tax due to which the council is losing out on revenue.
It may be recalled that in April 2023, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong had informed that the NHIDCL has terminated the contract with ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd, a company that was implementing Package II of the Shillong-Dawki Road Project, from Mylliem till Pynursla due to poor progress of work.
