Murder cases: Effort on to file charge sheets

SHILLONG, May 14: East Khasi Hills Police on Tuesday said that effort is on to expedite the investigation into the Ichamati killings and Mawroh murder cases to ensure that the charge sheets are filed within the timeframe.
“The two cases —Ichamati and Mawroh — are under investigation. We are making efforts to expedite the investigation and to ensure that the charge sheets are filed within the timeframe,” said East Khasi Hills district police chief, Rituraj Ravi, when asked about the status of the two cases. Police initially arrested two members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) — Mesadapbor Skhembil (26) and Shanborlang Shati (26) — in connection with the March 27 murder of two non-tribals at Ichamati under Shella constituency.
Later, Cleenstar Shabong (27), hailing from Nongthymmai, was also arrested in connection with the Ichamati twin-murder case.
Meanwhile, Gary Mawlieh (25), who hails from Mawlai, was arrested in connection with the murder of a labourer, Arjun Ray, at Mawlai Mawroh. This is the first arrest in the case.
Meanwhile, in regard with the alleged gang-rape of a young woman in September 2023 at a locality in Nongthymmai, three arrests have been made while an accused is still at large as the matter is subjudice.
He informed that the counter FIR filed by the juvenile has been registered and is being investigated.
