SHILLONG, May 14: The sporadic downpour has exacerbated the traffic congestion in the state capital, much to the agony of the general public and the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) alike.
“Due to the ongoing heavy rains, we are facing sluggish movement of traffic all across the city,” informed East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi.
Talking about the counter-measures taken to address the same, he said, “We are making more efforts. We have deployed more people and are ensuring that we are able to sort this out and ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the state.”
The already chock-a-block traffic in the state capital has further compounded as the number of four-wheelers on the road has seen a subsequent rise. Braving the rain, the traffic policemen are also seen trying to do their best to ease the congestion.
While the city roads remain the same, the number of vehicles has increased exponentially over the years, as against the limited number of police strength.
