SHILLONG, May 17: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday said it is not easy for anyone to assess parliamentary elections and nobody can guarantee a win for anybody.
NPP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, who contested the polls from the Shillong seat, said assessments are just efforts put in by political parties to gauge whether or not they are winning.
“Soon after the elections (in the state) were over, one political group was jubilant. It was confidently saying it is winning but it is not easy to assess MP elections,” Lyngdoh said.
She said the NPP has done an assessment but there is no point predicting anything now. She said she will wait for the results.
“I had said if I am elected, I will work very hard and be the voice which will be heard. If people reject me, I can only say I will remain an MLA,” she said.
Lyngdoh said Meghalaya needs an MP who has the guts to talk and the ability to give an opinion on issues.
She said whether she wins or loses, the government will gain from her experience as she had traversed the nook and corner of the 36 Assembly segments falling under the Shillong Lok Sabha seat and she now understands well what needs to be done and where.
“If you say Meghalaya has not progressed, then you are seriously joking because I have gone to the 36 constituencies. The progress was very clear – we have better roads, better health facilities. Employment opportunities across the 36 constituencies are very good. I saw that the housing facilities for people have improved substantiality. Access to healthcare and education is much better than before,” she claimed.
“I am very clear where the deficit lies. The biggest deficit of our government or any past government is the (lack of) publication of the good work they did. I am going to review this with my department of IPR,” she said.
