SHILLONG, May 24: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Friday vented ire over the imposition of Section 144 CrPC on counting day on June 4, and demanded its immediate withdrawal of the illogical, arbitrary and dictatorial move.
“We strongly urge you on behalf of the people to withdraw the illogical, arbitrary and dictatorial order to avoid confrontation between the administration and the people,” VPP general secretary and party  candidate from Shillong seat, Ricky AJ Syngkon said in a letter addressed to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, SC Sadhu on Friday.
“The Voice of the People Party vehemently opposes such an order which in undemocratic and against the spirit of participation in the electoral process of the country,” he said.
“This order reveals not only the weakness of the district administration and the Government as a whole but also implies authoritarianism and deprives the people of the right to participate in the democratic process,” he added.
